My opinion on the healthcare in Laos

What I genuinely feel about the healthcare in my home country is influenced by my parents which both of them are doctors working at the hospital and the ministry of health. In other words, my mother is a doctor whose job has to take care of the patients and my father has to build more hospital in rural areas depends oh his project he works on.Therefore, I have acquired a lot of knowledge of how things are in healthcare area and heard a lot of complaint since my mom always bring it up during the dinner table. A lot of Lao people, including myself, feel unsatisfied with the overall picture of hospital because the facilities are still poor due to the lack of funding and country's development status. For this reason, most people especially the upper class choose to go to neighboring countries to receive a better healthcare. It's the undeniable and disgusting truth that people who reside in rural area get no chance to a primary healthcare for the most part. Hopefully, there will be a better future for Lao to get rid of the healthcare's issue and get to meet the standardization that a good hospital suppose to be.

  1. Paow,
You certainly do have an insider's view of the health care system in your country. It's such a sad situation when you have to actually leave the country to receive proper health care services. What do the people in the rural areas generally do? Do they still rely on traditional medicine?
